Singer/Songwriter HELEN SHEPPARD

Heaven West Eleven was a pivotal chapter in my life. Having worked with the very talented singer/songwriter , Helen Sheppard for many years , it was rewarding to finally be given the tools and freedom ( thanks to Rhythm King & Epic) to make our own album in our very own studio! (not so common back in 1992!).In many ways "Dawn" was an emotional reference to the experiences shared during the seven years of making music together. These days it could be argued that the production may have dated. However it is a commonly held view that the songs, voice and pop sensibilities of HW11 have not. A fact echoed by two major artists on BMG, releasing HW11 penned songs later this year. My time with HW11 bought many new experiences to my world, traveling to Israel, South Africa and India, making videos in Egypt, seeing NYC for the first time, performing live on the roof at the world famous Capitol tower in LA (our US label) .Not to mention sipping cocktails at the pool side of the painfully plush Peninsular Hotel in Beverly Hills! A far cry from the south London bed-sit days huddled around a toy keyboard. Most of the people I now know and have worked with over the years, such as Robbie, Tinstar and Eastmountainsouth all grew from the HW11 days. And for this and the inspiring memories, I am very grateful. At present, whilst Helen continues to knock out great pop songs, and guest vocals on dance tracks. She is also making a name for herself as a modern jazz singer and songwriter, winning the respect of her contemporaries and critics alike. A new album is out soon, so watch this space for updates. TG
